New book coming — want to read?

New chapters, lessons learned, maps, many more images and even video! I only had two months to write the first one — so now it's time to summarize the lessons & share more events and images.

What is the book about?

"As the first Scandinavian and only Swede, thirty-five-year-old Pia L'Obry participated in the prestigious French race Transat 6.50 in autumn 2003. Seventy solo sailors in minimal boats compete to be the fastest from France to Brazil, via the equator and the doldrums.

Unlike many participants, Pia has no background as a racing sailor. Her love of the sea and sailing, combined with her sense of adventure, is her driving force.

In 'Solo över Atlanten,' Pia tells about the decision to participate, the search for a boat, qualification races, boat preparation, financial worries, and sponsor hunting. Then the reader gets to follow Pia's thoughts, experiences, and hardships day by day in the great race — what it's like to sleep in 20-minute periods, to be alone for three weeks, eat freeze-dried food, and constantly be wet.

This is a book for all sailing enthusiasts and also for those who want to be inspired to achieve their goals in life, whether it's sailing or something else."

— Wahlström & Widstrand, back cover of the first edition

The printed book from February 2004 sold over 5,000 copies, which is fantastic for a non-fiction book. But I only had a few weeks to write it, as it had to be printed and distributed before the boat show. I was also only allowed 8 pages of images. There is so much more material, including maps of the areas we sailed in.

NEW FOR 2026

Why a new book and new edition?

In addition to images and maps, I will also add some events that didn't make it into the first book and a bit about what happened afterwards. And a chapter with the lessons I take from the sailing, which I've used for the past 20 years in both business and parenthood.

To what I did and thought during the project, there is now neuroscience and behavioral science to back it up! Tools and lessons that I think will be excellent for entrepreneurs and self-leadership.

Perhaps something about when we sailed to Antarctica in 2002, with the world's first all-female expedition. Where not everyone sailed back...
